Dr. Altemeier received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati and was in the Department of Surgery at Cincinnati, 1940-78; he was Professor of Surgery and Chairman of the department, 1952-78. A sizable portion of the collection consists of correspondence. Includes letters from Christiaan Barnard, Lester Bryant, Stacey Day, Michael DeBakey, Warfield M. Firor, Steele Mattingly, Roy McClure, Jonathan E. Rhoads, Albert Wyss and Herbert E. Wyss.
