Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The Correspondence series contains a mixture of personal, family, and professional correspondence, mostly from the last ten years of Swan's life. Reprints, curriculum vitae, clippings, photographs, and family trees are among the attachments to the letters. An alphabetical range of folders (A-W) is listed first, followed by folders for individual correspondents that are arranged alphabetically by last name. Topics covered include genealogy, discussions of book and manuscript drafts, vacations and professional events, and the state of Swan's health. At the end of the series is a folder of letters written by Swan to his first wife Mary during his final year as an army surgeon during WWII. Filed after this folder is a scrapbook containing letters and certificates from Swan's tour of several Latin American countries in the late 1950's.
