Correspondence

The IABP series is comprised of four sub-series: Dog Studies, Human Studies, Instructional Training Program, and Cooperative Study. The last three sub-series are subdivided further. Materials in the first two sub-series comprise experimental data gathered during animal and human trials with the IABP. Dog Studies consists entirely of balloon pump readings that are arranged alphabetically by folder title; Human Studies consists of data logs, medical files, case reports, patient lists, ECG recordings, and wall charts as well as information on a study run by Mary Caiazza and Jaroslav P. Stulc. Most folders within these sub-series are arranged alphabetically by title. The Caiazza-Stulc study patient lists follow the order listed in the Table of Contents; the Case File notebooks which summarize numerous patients are arranged before the individual case files.

The third sub-series, Instructional Training Program, documents Kantrowitz's efforts to promote a wider acceptance of the IABP by training other healthcare professionals in its use. Particularly well documented is a one-time training workshop run by Sinai Hospital of Detroit in cooperation with the Ohio State University Perfusionist Training Program. Material types in this sub-series include correspondence, memoranda, evaluation and registration forms, background research, interviews, and printed matter. The Cooperative Study sub-series refers to a proposed effort by Maimonides Hospital and other institutions to construct IABP devices and deliver them to other medical facilities. Included are program proposals, reports, meeting minutes, correspondence, memoranda, manuals, and two audio reels. The subdivisions within each sub-series are arranged alphabetically by title; folders within these subdivisions are arranged chronologically by date range, then alphabetically by title.

Portions of the series are restricted by HMD's Access to Health Information of Individuals policy (PHI).
