The Subject Files series documents the wide variety of topics that were of interest to Lederberg. These topics include abortion, AIDS, biotechnology, education, the environment, Israel, medicine, the Middle East, nuclear policy, pandemics, population issues, racism, social science, the space program, the Soviet Union, television, transportation, the United Nations, viruses, women, World War II, and many other subjects.

Folders are arranged alphabetically. Documents were left in original order. Document types found in the series include correspondence, course materials, memoranda, publications (articles, clippings and reprints), and reports.
