Progress Report, 1976
Scope and Contents
The Genetics Research series contains Lederberg's research notes and lab notebooks from his years as a graduate student at Columbia and Yale, the time he spent as a professor/researcher at the University of Wisconsin and his experiments with bacteria recombination that won him the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1958, and material from his involvement in the creation of Stanford University's Department of Genetics.
Along with research notes, grant applications and correspondence, Lederberg kept stock culture index/keysort cards, which are a comprehensive catalog of strains (E. coli and B. subtilis) from 1947 through 1959. The cards are split into two series (Y and WG), which indicate the strains used by Tatum at Yale and the strains used by Lederberg at Wisconsin.
Folders in this sub-series are arranged alphabetically and chronologically.
