Series 17: Membership Committee

Membership lists are placed at the beginning of the series along with rosters of members of the committee and blank application forms. A committee procedure manual c. 1957-61 is placed near the begining of the series. Institutional Memberships for the period from 1956-circa 1963 have information on the size of the library, staffing, and history. After 1963 a new form dropped this information and required instead a list of current subscription journals. These have been discarded. Rejected applications of institutions and some individuals from 1962 and 1968-72 were kept since they often generated interesting discussion. Chair A. Brandon's files are in reverese chronological order. Chair J. Martin's files are in chronological order. The two subject headings found under W. Winter's reflect her organization. One folder from R. Divett, a member of the Committee, relate to one project of which he was in charge. A folder from his tenure as chairman follows. The files from 1975-80 are from the Board Liaisons, Bill Caldwell and John Timour 1980-81, and G. Yokote, Chair and are organized by Subject Headings from her notebook. Files from 1981-82, R. Labree, Chair are organized by Subject Headings from her notebook and appear to mimic the arrangement adopted by Yokote. The 1982-83 files are from the Board Liaisons, A. May and Joan Ash. Some material included in the series is from the headquarters files, most notably the opening lists of MLA members and the membership applications. The latter, were filed at MLA headquarters, though they passed through the committee's hands.
