Series 62: Finance Committee

 Series

Scope and Contents

The Finance Committee is first mentioned in the list of committees for 1938-39. The members of the committee consisted of the MLA president, James Ballard, the vice-president, and one other member. (One early, apparently rogue, reference is found in the index for vols. 1-40.) Around 1947 the treasurer served as a member and the Bylaws for 1950 officially recognized the committee and required one member to be the treasurer. Beginning in 1962/3, the... Treasurer served as chairman of the committee. In 1974 the office of the Treasurer was abolished and all duties were assumed by the Finance Committee. From 1940-46, Harold Jones was the President of the MLA as well as the Chairman of the Finance Committee. Jones' Presidental correspondence related to financial matters was filed with the Finance Committee. The Ad Hoc Committee to Recommend Additional Sources of Income is included with the Finance Committee.
