Series 7: Annual Scientific Sessions Reports, Publications, and Printed Material, 1955-1986; 2007

 Series

Scope and Contents

The College's annual conventions are known as the Annual Scientific Sessions. The sessions primarily began as an educational and research forum, expanded to include a major medical and scientific exposition by the late 1950s, and now also serve as the College's principal business and award meeting. Material contained in this series include: programs for the Sessions and their related events; verbatim transcripts for the Annual Business Meetings, (always held in conjunction with the Sessions); assorted copies of the abstracts of papers delivered. Of special note in the series are: public relations reports for the 1968, 1969 and 1970 Sessions, produced by the Stephen T. Donohue Company, a private public relations contractor hired by the College; copies of the letter sent to President Nixon inviting him to address the 1971 Session, a copy of his address, and a letter of thanks from the President to William Nelligan, then Executive Director of the College; and a copy of the address made by Art Buchwald to the 1974 Session. Additional information concerning the Sessions may be found in the Board of Trustees, Minutes; Executive Committee, Minutes; and Papers of Philip Reichert, Subject Files and History Files.
