From the Series:

The material collected here was selected from Mr. Nelligan's administrative files at the Heart House facility. William Nelligan succeeded Philip Reichert as Executive Director of the College in 1965, transforming it into a full-time position. Nelligan's principle achievements were guiding the College in its move from New York to Washington in 1965 and in the building and development of its Heart House facility. One of the outgrowths of this move was the Bethesda Conference series, a forum for discussion and proclamations on medical policy.
