The papers in the collection reflect the committee's activities and interests. Included in the files are the program analyses prepared for the committee, background information on medical research in the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, and other information reflective of the state of federal medical research in the mid-1950's. The operation of the committee is also well documented in the minutes of its seven meetings, in the chronological correspondence files, and in the numerous memoranda to committee members written by Dr. Pisani. Also of interest are the letters between Dr. Long and Pisani on the long-term impact of the committee's report.
