Scope and Contents

This series consists of documents produced by Kolff Medical Inc. (later Symbion Inc.), the corporation that sponsored DeVries's total artificial heart (TAH) research at both the University of Utah and the HHII. The material is divided into two sub-series: Heart Devices and General Administration. Documentation on the mechanics and use of the Jarvik-7 Artificial Heart, Acute Ventricular Assist Device, and other mechanical heart devices can be found in the Heart Devices sub-series. Material types in this sub-series include responses to FDA questions about the TAH, protocols, chronologies, annual reports, analysis reports, manuals, consent forms, and photographs.
