Description
This was one of Freis's first attempts to evaluate chlorothiazide, a new diuretic that acted to increase the excretion of water and salt, and therefore reduced fluid in blood volume and decreased blood pressure. Here, along with several colleagues from the Veterans Administration and Georgetown University, he recognized the promise that this antihypertensive agent held, noting that chlorothiazide was an "effective and well-tolerated" treatment.
