Description

In this letter, Einstein thanked Heidelberger for a financial contribution Heidelberger had made on behalf of his wife, who had died from cancer in 1946 and who had been an outspoken advocate of the United Nations. Like his wife, Heidelberger saw the United Nations as the main arbiter and force for peace in the intensifying Cold War, a conflict which the Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists sought to mediate as well.
