G. Mary Bourne, MSW (1927-2018) had a lifelong interest in family and long history of reading widely across disciplines, which eventually led to her training in 1975 at the Special Postgraduate Program in Bowen Family Systems Theory and Its Applications at the Georgetown Family Center led by its founder Dr. Murray Bowen. By 1981, she had co-founded the Minnesota Institute of Family Dynamics (MIFD 1981-1995) in Minneapolis, an independent training center patterned after the Georgetown program; Bowen was a featured contributor to its program from 1981-1990.
