Biographical Note

Dr. Pool received his M.D. from Columbia University in 1899. He was a clinical professor of surgery at Columbia, 1915-1937, a professor of medical surgery at the Medical College of Cornell University, senior attending surgeon at New York Hospital, and consulting surgeon to a variety of New York hospitals.

With Ralph G. Stillman, Pool co-authored Surgery of the spleen (1923). In 1930 Pool collaborated with Frank J. McGowan to produce Surgery at the New York hospital one hundred years ago.

Collection Summary

Contains case reports kept by Major Pool while on active duty with the American Expeditionary Forces in France during the spring and summer of 1918. Includes drawings, photographs, and x- rays of wounds and photographs of hospital interiors, staff and equipment. Of note is account of wounds and treatment of Archibald B. Roosevelt in April 1918.
