Biographical Note

Hubert Luef was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1861 and died in 1929 in Elizabethtown, Pa. He graduated from Long Island College Hospital in 1880. One of the recomendation letters describes him as skilled anatomist and pathologist. He left Brooklyn in 1886 "for personal reasons" and moved to Philadelphia where he continued his private medical practice.

Collection Summary

Six letters and clippings, primarily letters of introduction from New York physicians recommending Dr. Leuf when he moved to Philadelphia. There is also one letter by Leuf trying to relieve his brother-in-law from duty in the Canal Zone. News clippings from various Brooklyn and Philadelphia newspapers describe two murder trials at which Leuf testified, thoughts on physical education, social science, free silver, and his acquital over extortion charges.
