Biographical Note

The Canadian-born Andrew Robinson (1845-1924) received medical degrees from Bellevue Medical School and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Edinburgh and completed post-graduate studies in Paris, London and Vienna. He served as a surgeon in the French army during the Franco-Prussian War. Afterwards, he came to New York City and practiced as an internist, but turned to research as well, especially dermatology. He authored Manual of dermatology (1885). Robinson later co-founded the New York Polyclinic Hospital and Medical School.
