In February 1977 the President of the MLA appointed an Ad Hoc Committee on the Feasibility of an Oral History Program for the Association. Nancy Zinn and Estelle Brodman submitted a proposal to the National Library of Medicine in October 1979 to obtain funding for the Oral History Program.
