Description

In 1957, Freis was the first to announce the treatment of hypertension with the diuretic chlorothiazide. Especially when taken in conjunction with other drugs, chlorothiazide proved extremely effective at lowering blood pressure. In this follow-up to a paper on chlorothiazide Freis presented with Ilse Wilson in 1959, he further discussed the drug's effectiveness as well as the role salt plays in hypertension.
