Description

Freis and Wilson collaborated on several papers on various treatments for hypertension in the 1950s. In this article, they discussed the effect of the diuretic chlorothiazide on extracellular fluid and plasma, noting that it significantly reduced both plasma volume and body weight during the first two to three days of treatment. They noted, however, that continued use resulted in no further reduction of extracellular fluid.
