Description

In this article, the Veterans Affairs Cooperative Study Group reported on a clinical trial in which patients who failed to reach their diastolic pressure goal with initial drug treatment were randomly allocated an alternative drug. In many cases treatment with the alternate drug was successful, and the authors concluded that sequential single-drug therapy was a rational approach to treating hypertension in these patients.
