Description
In this article, Freis noted that though hypertension was one of the few important cardiovascular diseases that could be treated, its nature--progressive over decades and often without symptoms--presented special challenges to physicians. Prescribing treatment was only a first step; physicians would need to convince patients of the need for long-term treatment, and then follow their cases, making adjustments to medication as needed, and enlisting family and community resources to support the effort.
