In this article, Freis and Rose reported their continued research that utilized the artificial left-ventricle by-pass pumps in dogs. They noted that these experiments demonstrated the complex nature of the role of the sympathetic nervous system in regulating arteriolar tone and cardiac activity, as well as in adjusting total vascular volume and venous return.
