Critique of the Clinical Importance of Diurectic-Induced Hypokalemia and Elevated Cholesterol Level

Description
In this commentary, Freis argued that one of the more disappointing outcomes of the antihypertensive drug trials has been the failure to curb the morbidity rate due to coronary heart disease (CHD). He noted that some have hypothesized that the continued high death rate from CHD was due in part to thiazide-induced hypokalemia. After reviewing various studies on both sides of the debate, Freis concluded that the evidence did not support the argument that diuretic use contributed to CHD.
