Throughout Heidelberger's career, fellow scientists, including the preeminent physical chemist Linus Pauling, turned to him to obtain preparations of polysaccharide antigens, antisera, or purified antibodies for use in their own experiments. Heidelberger accumulated an extensive stock of these substances over the course of six decades of research in immunochemistry.
