Biographical Note

Dr. Stanley F. Yolles became Director of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) in 1964.Dr. Yolles' (1919-2001) early career focused on parasitology. By the early 1950s he concentrated on psychiatry and joined NIMH in 1954. NIMH deputy director in 1963, he succeeded Robert Felix as director upon Felix's retirement in 1964. He left NIMH in 1970 after clashing with the federal administration over its drug policies.
