Historical Note

The American Gynecological Society was organized June 3, 1876 at a meeting at the New York Academy of Medicine. Its purpose was "promoting knowledge in all that relates to the diseases of women and to obstetrics."

Manuscript drafts of "An illustration of xenomania" by Theophilus Parvin, "On death from uremia in certain cases of malignant disease of the uterus" by Alfred Wiltshire, "Hermaphroditism," by Lawson Tait, and "On the relations of pregnancy to general pathology," by Robert Barnes. Each of these articles appeared in Transactions of the American Gynecological Society, vol 1, for the year 1876.
