Biographical Note

Caspar Ralph Byars (1875-1963) was born in Columbus, Texas. He received his M.D. degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia in 1898. He joined the Army Medical Corps as a surgeon in 1900 and was stationed in the Philippines until 1903. Throughout his career he served at many posts in the United States and in France during World War I. He retired from the army in 1933.
