Historical Note

Making up for the absence of a southern medical journal and lack of access to northern medical journals once the Civil War began, the Confederate states medical and surgical journal was begun in Richmond in 1864. It featured original papers by Confederate physicians, reviews of European journals, and statistical information about the Confederate army's medical department. The semi-official publication, edited by Confederate Surgeon General Samuel... Preston Moore, was issued monthly. Its fourteenth and last issue was published in February 1865.
