Biographical Note

Worth B. Daniels, Sr., 1899-1978, was graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1920 and from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1924. After postgraduate study in London and New York, Dr. Daniels entered private practice of medicine in Washington in 1926. During World War II, he was a colonel in the US Army. He served as chief of the medical service of Fort Bragg regional hospital, medical consultant to the 8th Army in the Southwest... Pacific Area, chief of the Infectious Disease Service at Beaumont General Hospital in Texas, and finally chief of the medical service at Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington. In 1946, Dr. Daniels returned to his private practice in Washington. Over the years he became professor of clinical medicine at Georgetown, senior attending physician at the Washington Hospital Center, consultant to the Washington Veterans Administration Hospital, and consultant to the Surgeon-General's Library. He was the first chair of the NLM's Board of Regents and served as the master of ceremonies at its dedication in 1956.
