Biographical Note

Donald Fredrickson, 1924-2002, received his medical training at the University of Michigan. As a researcher, Fredrickson studied the relationship between fats and disease. He was director of the National Heart Institute, 1966-1968, Director of the National Institutes of Health, 1975-1981, and director of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, 1983-1987.
