Dr. May was a surgeon and member of the Board of Regents of the National Library of Medicine (1971-75).

Collection Summary

Contains correspondence, journal articles, newsletters, medical product advertisements, and other materials relating to May's medical practice. Includes correspondence with hospitals where May served on staff including Mt. Zion Hospital, the French Hospital of San Francisco, and Sequoia Hospital. Form letters, newsletters, reports and minutes are from the American Thoracic Society, the San Francisco Medical Association, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Medical Writers Association, the American College of Angiology, and other professional organizations. Also included are the records of a four year study of coronary disease prepared for the Committee on Cardiac Surgery of the American College Chest Physicians.
