Scope and content

Collection consists of an assortment of administrative operational reports covering a variety of functional areas such as finance, personnel, general operations, leadership guidance, member representatives, conference/meeting planning, and general notices of the Red Cross Society in the People's Republic of China. The reports cover a wide variety of activities such as improving local sanitation; establishing community first aid stations and trainings; combatting coal gas poisonings from home heating stoves; establishing finance, accounting, and banking rules; and creating promotional materials.

Biographical / Historical

The Red Cross Society of China was founded as the Shanghai International Red Cross Committee on March 10, 1904, during the Russo-Japanese War. After the Chinese Civil War ended in 1949, the Chinese Communist Party re-organized the Red Cross organization in Beijing and was admitted to the International Federation in 1950 under the name of Red Cross Society of China.
