Biographical Note

Philibert Joseph Roux, 1780-1854, was a French surgeon, professor of medicine, and medical writer. He lectured at l'hopital Beaujon, la Charite, and L'Hotel-Dieu 1835-54. He was an influential instructor on anatomy and surgery, and a noted experimental surgeon.

Roux wrote Melanges de chirurgie et de physiologie (1809), Nouveaux elemens de medecine operatoire (1813), A narrative of a journey to London, in 1814; or, A parallel of the English and French surgery; preceded by some observations on the London hospitals (1816), Memoire sur la staphyloraphie; ou, Suture du voile du palais (1825), Discours prononce a la seance publique de Rentree de la Faculte de Medecine de Paris (1851), and Quarante annees de pratique chirurgicale (1855).
