Biographical/Historical Note

Tobias Watkins was born in Maryland and educated at St. Johns in Annapolis. He graduated from the Philadelphia Medical College in 1802. From 1812 to 1815 he was a U.S. Army surgeon. From 1818 to 1821 Watkins was Assistant Surgeon General. He died in Washington, D.C.
