Provides brief descriptions of medical treatments, presented under a series of headings. Mixing compounds, making pills, potions, powders, and laxatives are covered as well as rinsing, gargling, licking, and soaking. Cited in Index-Catalogue, ser. 2, v. 10, p. 347.

Includes recipes for treatment of rheumatism, gout, menorrhagia, gonorrhea, nausea of pregnant females, after [birth] pains, ulcerative stomatitis, diarrhea, diarrhea of phthisis, night sweats, amonorrhea, dysmenouhrea, chronic constipation, acidity of flatulence, and dropsy. Also instructions for preparing tonics, narcotics and sedatives, expectorants, cathartics, lotions and salves.

Includes descriptions of treatment for consumption, jaundice, colic (bilious), rattlesnake bite, toothache, burns, and cancer. Also has instructions for making back plaster, making red ink, restoring sour cider, and refining cider. "Abby, Garner Joseph" appears in book.
