Biographical Note

Noah Harrison Hart apparently resided in Lapeer, Michigan at the beginning of the Civil War. He served with the 10th Michigan Infantry, Company F from 10/25/1861 to 2/5/1865. He entered as a first lieutenant and rose to the rank of captain, probably working with the quartermaster, before his discharge at age 51.

Collection Summary

Contains Hart's letters to his wife sent from the South during the Civil War. Diary was kept in 1863-1864. Hart's force was with the Army of the Mississippi, 1862-63, and was active in Nashville and Murfreesboro, Tennessee and at Bridgeport, Alabama. Later his group was assigned to the 1st Brigade 2nd Division 14th Army Corps which fought at the battle of Rocky Face Ridge (Buzzard's Roost) at Dalton, Georgia in 1864, and was in Atlanta during October 1864. Mentions Generals Rosecrans and Morgan.
