Historical Note

Edward Milner was attending physician for a patient who died after the administration of chloroform in 1874. He wrote an account of the incident immediately after it took place. In 1876 he summarized the case for Dr. Thomas Lauder Brunton, who apparently applied the information to one of his medical lectures at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London.
