Abstract
Dr. Fred Soper joined the International Health Division of the Rockefeller Foundation in 1920 and engaged in the hookworm campaigns in Brazil and Paraguay (1920-1927). From 1927-1942 he was Regional Director of the IHD, at Rio de Janeiro, and was active in the study and control of yellow fever and malaria. Russell as an early researcher into the inoculation of typhoid. He was assigned the duty of implementing an immunization program within the U.S. Army from 1910-1911. Following his military career he served as the director of the International Health Board of the Rockefeller Foundation, continuing his public health research and focusing on yellow fever.
