From the Series:

This series consists mainly of notes and drafts of speeches documenting Cummings' speaking engagements at dedications, conferences, and a variety of other professional events. Topics include medical library technology, the National Library of Medicine, the Medical Library Assistance Act, the National Medical Library Network, William Osler, and John Shaw Billings. The speeches from 1963 to 1976 have been numbered and arranged chronologically by Cummings' staff. In addition, information about the location of the presentation and any subsequent publications, if relevant, is included. After 1976 his staff discontinued the numbering system. For intellectual access, the speeches from the later years have been described individually replicating Cummings' earlier filing system.
