Biographical / Historical
William Arthur was a physician in the U.S. Army Medical Department, advancing to become Brigadier General. He served in the western territories during the 1880s, then in Cuba and the Phillipines aboard the hospital ship "Missouri" during the Spanish-American War. He later became the first commanding office of Walter Reed General Hospital and medical director of Georgetown University Hospital.
