Biographical Note

Jay McLean was born in San Francisco on August 13, 1890. He received an M.A. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1914. After serving as an ambulance driver for a short time in France during World War I, McLean enrolled at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he earned his M.D. in 1919. He served as associate professor at Ohio State University College of Medicine, a fellow in cancer and research surgery at Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases in New York City (1934-1937), director of cancer control for District of Columbia Health Department (1947-1949), and director of the Savannah Tumor clinic from 1949 until his death. He died November 14, 1957 at Savannah, Ga.
